Alejandro Cesarco
Alejandro Cesarco was born in 1975 in Montevideo, Uruguay. He has exhibited in galleries and museums in the United States, Latin America and Europe, and is the winner of the 2011 Baloise Art Prize. His first major solo museum show will open on 22 September 2012 at MuMoK, Vienna. Recent solo exhibitions include: ‘The Early Years’, Tanya Leighton, Berlin (2012); ‘A Long Time Ago Last Night,’ ar/ge kunst, Bolzano, Italy (2011); ‘Why Work?’, Ignacio Liprandi, Buenos Aires (2011) ‘Common Ground’, National Pavilion of Uruguay, Venice Biennale (2011); Art|42|Basel - Statements, Basel (2011); ‘Activating the Collection: One Without the Other’, Museo Rufino Tamayo, Mexico (2011); CityArtPace, San Antonio, Texas (2010); ‘Present Memory’, Level 2 Gallery Series, Tate Modern London; ‘Two Films’, Murray Guy, New York (2009). These exhibitions addressed, through different formats and strategies, his recurrent interests in repetition, narrative, and the practices of reading and translating. He has curated exhibitions in the U.S., Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina. He is director of Art Resources Transfer where he initiated and edits ‘Between Artists’ (2008 - present) – a series of conversation-based books that are published by A.R.T. Press. He lives and works in New York.
